The Great Tram Move

Over the 14th and 15th of February some of our volunteers took part in a major rearrangement of some of our trams stored in our various Carbarns. This event was dubbed by a few members as 'The Great Tram Move' and indeed it was pretty impressive.

Planning for this occurred many months ago as some of our trams needed to be rearranged so that trams under restoration could be moved to areas more suited to tram restoration. Trams which were going to be restored in the long term also had to be moved to make space for trams under restoration.

By making this move it will allow our restoration crew to get more trams operational again sooner.

One of the trams under restoration which had to be moved was Adelaide H class tram 372. This tram had to be moved to our main workshop to allow our volunteers to get underneath the tram to carry out vital restoration work. Great progress has already been made on this trams restoration, with trolley poles soon to be fitted on the roof of the tram. We are hoping to have this tram operational by the end of 2024 to some time in 2025.

Fremantle tram 30 also had to be moved to make space for extra trams to fit inside the Geddes Carbarn. There are no immediate plans for the restoration of Fremantle tram 30 but we hope at some point in the future to get it operational again.
