How You Can Help
Interested in volunteering for PETS? Our heritage tram experience is operated by heritage trams which need lots of maintenance to keep them going.
If you would like to join us and work with others with the same interests, you would be most welcome. Your existing skill would be highly valued. If you have no strong skills, then bring your enthusiasm and you will soon develop the new skills and knowledge that you need.

Tram Crew
Our trams operate on about 240 days every year. Seeing the delight on the faces of passengers who may have never experienced a tram ride before and those who remember what it was like, makes the job of the conductor and motorman (tram driver) a very rewarding experience. The conductor collects the fares and provides information to passengers as well as looking after the passenger's safety. The motorman drives the tram and assists the conductor with passengers when required. Our tram crew members are our main point of contact with the community and the fares collected all go to the maintenance and restoration of our heritage tram fleet and tramway.
Electrical
The trams operate on 600 volts dc. There is a lot to do with their electrical motors, controllers and other equipment. Also general ac work around the museum.
Mechanical
Mechanical tasks include looking after brakes, suspension, air and structural aspects.
Motor Vehicles
The motor vehicle section provides essential support in many of our activities.
Restoration
The restoration team reconstructs the tram body shells into full operating or static display condition. They also help keep the operating trams look as smart as possible. Many skills are used including woodworking, metalwork, painting, etc.
Track work
Our track team makes sure our trams stay on the rails by maintaining and building new track.
