Fremantle 29's First Test Run After Her Overhaul
Welcome back Fremantle Municipal Tramways (FMT) 29!
With her overhaul now nearing completion, Fremantle 29 is now undergoing testing before she can carry passengers once again. Currently she can only be tested in the Carbarn area due to our tramway shutdown, but once complete she will be tested on the mainline. Tasks undertaken during her overhaul included: body work, repainting and modifications to the tram's seats.
For those that don't know, Fremantle 29 was the first Western Australian tramcar our society ever restored back in 1992 and had been operating on our tramway for almost 30 years before the commencement of her overhaul.
A big shout out to our incredible volunteers who are helping return Fremantle 29 to service!
In the image below you can see Fremantle 29 at the end of the track which our trams can currently operate on. Her desto is displaying route E which stands for route East. This route ran for almost 6km from the Fremantle Railway Station, along Canning Road (now Canning Highway) to Stock Road in Melville.
The interior of Fremantle 29. These seats can be flipped, usually to face the direction of travel, unfortunately our volunteers were feeling a little bit rebellious and did not flip the seats to face the direction of travel.
