Adelaide H Type Tram 372 Moves Under Its Own Power For The First Time In 18 Years

After many months of tireless work, Adelaide H Type 372 was finally able to move under her own power for the first time in nearly 18 years. The tests today consisted of moving 372 backward and forwards outside the carbarns as the power has been isolated beyond the carbarns so work can be conducted for the extension. Once our tramway reopens, 372 will be able to do some tests across our entire network. Some mechanical and electrical tasks still remain, with a lot of aesthetic work needing to be done. We hope 372 will be bale to enter service later this year.

372 was built in 1929 along with the other 29 H Type trams for use on Adelaide's newly built Glenelg tramway, which was converted from a railway. They have a top speed of 70km/h making them one of the fastest trams in Australia at the time. Our society also has 372's sister tram 371 in our collection, awaiting restoration at some point in the future.

We can't wait to welcome you aboard for a ride once all the restoration work is complete.
